It allows passwordless login into Salesforce by verifying a user’s identity on a separate device, which improves security and increases productivity by making logins as simple as a click and a tap. It comes at no additional cost to Salesforce customers.

• It allows you to login to Salesforce with just your username and your mobile device
• It is enabled for all Users by default in all organizations
• It has nothing to do with Lightning Experience (LEX). The word “lightning” in Lightning Login refers to the fact that it’s amazingly fast.
• It works in classic. You don’t need to be using Lightning Experience to actually use Lightning Login.
• It will work in all editions of Salesforce and any type of Org.
• It works for internal users only – not external community users.
• MyDomain does not need to be enabled to use Lightning Login.
• Even though it is enabled for all users by default, as an admin, you can restrict Lightning Login to specific users through a permission set of profile.

 

Requirements to Use Lightning Login

1. An Android or iOS mobile device with the Salesforce Authenticator app installed.
2. Each user must individually enroll in Lightning Login (i.e., link their mobile device to their Salesforce User account.

Lightning Login vs. Standard Username and Password

• Convenience – much quicker than typing in your username and password
• Adds an extra layer of security by requiring two-factors authentication for every login:

1. Factor 1: Something you know or have (Finger Print or PIN)
2. Factor 2: Something you have (mobile device with the Salesforce Authenticator installed)
